Hikvision Default Password How To Back Factory

The Hikvision device no longer has a standard password. They haven't done it for several years now. We have discussed this before:

Hikvision Default Password

Hikvision default password is

ManufacturerUsernamePassword
GeoVisionadminadmin

GVIAdmin1234

Hikvision and NVR cameras have not had a default password for several years now.

Hikvision forces you to set a unique and strong password the first time you activate your camera or recorder.
This is a safer recommended exercise and plays a role in preventing hacking attacks.
If you forget, lose, or don't know your Hikvision password, you must reset it.

If your camera or recorder has a reset button, then you can use it to reset ALL settings to factory default - in this case, you will need to reconfigure your settings afterward:

How to Reset a HikVision IP camera using the push button.

First, does your camera get a button to reset?

This is a pretty reliable rule of thumb that if your camera has a memory card slot it will also have a reset button (often located close to the card slot).

In the HikVision naming nomenclature, 'F' in the product code indicates 'F for Flash' which means it can accept memory cards.

Some cameras in the R6 Family range previously had it.

All cameras in the G1 Family / EasyIP 3.0 now have a card slot and a button reset.

To reset your camera back to factory defaults:

  • Disconnect the power supply.
  • Press and hold the reset button.
  • Continue to hold the reset button and return the power supply.
  • Continue holding the reset button for 10 seconds.
  • Release the button and let the camera finish restarting/rebooting.

When you check the camera in SADP after resetting, it will display as 'inactive' and will ask you to start again.
The first thing you must do in SADP is to set a password.
All settings will be reset by the reset button, so you need to reconfigure the camera's IP address, network settings, time, OSD, etc.

We will recommend that you also check and update the latest firmware available for your camera. model: DOWNLOAD PORTAL

Alternatively, you can work through the Hikvision password reset procedure using their SADP utility:
How to Reset Your Hikvision / NVR Camera Password in 5 steps using the SADP Tool

Cybersecurity is a big problem for current IP producers and the key element of cybersecurity is the password and reset process, so in this guide, we will take you through the Hikvision secure process to reset your camera / NVR password using the SADP Tool.

This process only takes 5 steps but it will take a long time because emails must be sent and received to complete the process, but we will talk more about this later in this guide, for now, let's start with:
Step 1: Open SADP and select the camera / NVR that you want to reset by checking the box next to the device on the left side of the list and then clicking the Forgot Password link at the bottom of the pop-up tab to the right of the SADP window.

Step 2: Click the Export button on the pop-up to export the reset file and then select the folder to save the file that is easy to find

(IMPORTANT: After you have re-exported your camera / NVR file you have to keep it powered ON until the reset is complete)

Step 3: Open your email and attach the reset file to the new email, send this file together with the information listed below to info@use-ip.co.uk
mengirim ulang email (edit) .png

Step 4: Download & save the new reset file from the email you received from us to an easily found folder (we want to recommend the same folder as the original exported file)

Step 5: Open SADP and return to the export pop-up from before, this time you want to go to step 2 and check the Import File box, then click the folder icon and find the reset file that we just sent you, open it so the route file appears in the box like below, finally enter your new password twice then click Confirm

After clicking confirm, a box will appear with a green checkmark and the words Reset Password Successful

With a password reset you can now open the Internet Explorer browser, search for the device's IP address, and enter using a new password, after that, you can continue to do what you like with the device (we would recommend checking your firmware for updates before you do anything other)

Hikvision now provides a DIY password recovery system, BUT you must configure this option BEFORE you lose your Hikvision password:

Reset Hikvision Password Default - Do it Yourself

The best advice is - please don't set and forget your password - you will make yourself a workload and hassle if you do.

We recommend, and everyone here uses, LastPass Premium as a password manager for all of our passwords, for everything !!

(The LastPass link above is an affiliate link - this link gives you and us one month of free LastPass Premium service)

Firstly, your device will need to be running recent / the latest available firmware.

We have only yesterday seen the first reference to this feature in the brief notes to the latest firmware for the -I Series NVRs:

Latest HikVision Firmware for -I NVRs - new V4.1.65 (76XX, 77XX, 96XX NI-I)
e.g. it should work with -I Series NVRs running firmware V4.1.65 or newer

However, we noted that in the videos below they demonstrate it working with older firmware, showing the previous GUI 3 on a connected monitor, and also shown with a 7108 DVR running firmware V3.4.89 (released 16th September 2018).

And, PLEASE NOTE you need to make preparations in advance for the day you forget your password.
e.g. set a 'Reserved email address' to which a reset code can be sent when needed.
Cometh the day you don't know your password, you will not then be able to log in and set a reserved email address.

Our advice, don't forget your password - in fact, do what we do and use a service such as LastPass to manage ALL your passwords!
[that link earns us 1 month free if you sign-up - about $2; all the team at use-IP have used LastPass for years!]

And finally, because this thread will get loads of traffic from people who have forgotten their password and are stuck, we at use-IP Ltd can only assist you in resetting your password IF YOU PURCHASED YOUR HIKVISION EQUIPMENT FROM US.

I can't help but think that a slicker / easier solution could have been implemented - please don't shoot the messenger.

I can say that lost/forgotten passwords for Hikvision devices are a huge problem; requests to us from strangers worldwide are a new form of spam - at least ten per day!!

If you take nothing else away from watching the below videos please just realize what a PITA it is when you do lose/forget your password and please use a service such as LastPass mentioned above to remember all your passwords AND use the tools therein to improve your security everywhere you log in.
